Nurses and midwives who are migrating on a Skills Stream

Nurses and midwives who are migrating to Australia on a Skills Stream must be assessed for this purpose by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC) on behalf of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. This assessment will not lead to registration as the ANMC is not a regulatory authority.

If you have undertaken an assessment with the ANMC and now wish to register with the Nurses Board of South Australia, you will need to request them to forward your file to the Nurses Board for a modified assessment so that compliance with the Nurses Act 1999 can be determined. We will also need to receive the completed form titled "Application for Assessment of Nursing and/or Midwifery Qualifications Gained in Countries other than Australia or New Zealand" and payment of the appropriate fee (Overseas Assessment - ANMC Assessed). You will not need to supply the documentation listed on our form as this is in your ANMC file. You will be advised of the outcome of your application on completion of the assessment.

Note that it can take up to three months for an assessment to be completed. Please refrain from contacting this office to ascertain the progress of your application, as you will be contacted as soon as your assessment has commenced.

If you undertake an assessment with our Board and gain registration before applying to emigrate, you will still need to be assessed by the ANMC for the purposes of a skilled migration. Contact the ANMC for information and their Application for Assessment Form.

Please note there is no ASCO code for the occupation of enrolled nurse/registered nurse division 2, therefore applicants with these
qualifications are not able to apply to the ANMC for assessment of their qualifications under the General Skilled Migration Category.
