Requirements for Interstate Educated Applicants under Mutual Recognition Act 1992
If you have been previously registered or enrolled in South Australia, these requirements do not apply. You will be required to reinstate your registration or enrolment.
Nurses and midwives who successfully apply under the Mutual Recognition Act 1992 are granted deemed registration or enrolment which enables the nurse and midwife to commence employment while details of current registration or enrolment are verified interstate. Deemed registration or enrolment continues until substantive registration or enrolment is granted, or until it is cancelled or refused by the Board. Applicants will be notified of such decisions within one calendar month.
Substantive registrants will be issued with an initial registration or enrolment certificate and a certificate of registration or enrolment which provides evidence of registration or enrolment and a licence to practice.
Application Requirements
An application form must be completed by the applicant, witnessed by a Justice of the Peace or any other approved signatory under the Statutory Declarations Regulations 1993 and returned to this office with the appropriate fees and documents listed below. The Nurses Board will not accept responsibility for original documents sent to this office and request copies wherever possible.
- Documentation evidencing your identity (eg passport, driver's licence or birth certificate).
- Evidence of change of name if registration or enrolment is sought under a name different from that appearing on any of your documents. Acceptable documents are marriage certificate or change of name certificate. Please contact the Nurses Board if you require further information on acceptable documents.
- Current certificate of registration or enrolment (also referred to as practising certificate).

Applicants will be required to pay the fees for both initial registration or enrolment and certificate of registration or enrolment. A fee is also required to register each additional qualification. Badges can also be purchased, however these are optional.
