What is needed to register or enrol if educated in South Australia
An application form must be completed by the applicant and returned to this office with the appropriate fees and documents listed below. The Nurses Board will not accept responsibility for original documents sent to this office and request copies wherever possible.
- Identification which must indicate full legal name and date of birth (for example passport or driver's licence).
- Legal evidence of change of name if all your documents are not in the same name, or if you are seeking registration or enrolment in a name different than those appearing on your documents. Acceptable documents are marriage certificate or change of name certificate. Please contact the Nurses Board if you require further information on acceptable documents.
- Academic transcript of your education program (this may come direct to the Nurses Board from the education provider).
If you are an overseas educated registered nurse or midwife who has not completed a three year degree (that is, Bachelor of Nursing Pre-Registration or Bachelor of Midwifery), you will also be required to provide the following:
- A statement from the registering authority in your home country verifying the status of your authorisation to practise as a nurse or midwife in that country. This document is often referred to as a verification. The verification must be sent direct from the registering authority to us. Verifications received from you WILL NOT be accepted. If you come from a country that does not have a registering authority (for example Germany), you must obtain your verification from the authority who advised you of your success in the national or state exam and that you were eligible to use the title of nurse or midwife. In other countries the Ministry of Health is the relevant authority responsible for the registration of nurses and midwives. If you hold registration or enrolment in more than one country, we request that you obtain your verification from the last country in which you have practised as a nurse or midwife.
If you already hold registration with the Nurses Board of South Australia (nbsa) and wish to register an additional qualification, please refer to additional qualifications for details.
If you wish to register in person, you must make an appointment to do so on 08 8366 5566. The process takes between 15-20 minutes.
Applicants will be required to pay the fees for both initial registration or enrolment and certificate of registration or enrolment (also known as practising certificate). Badges can also be purchased, however these are optional.
