Requirements for Interstate Educated Applicants under the Nurses Act 1999

If you have been previously registered or enrolled in South Australia, these requirements do not apply. You will be required to reinstate your registration or enrolment.

Nurses and midwives who are approved for registration or enrolment under the Nurses Act 1999 are granted full registration or enrolment and issued with an initial (original) certificate and certificate of registration or enrolment at the time of application.

Application Requirements

An application form must be completed by the applicant and returned to this office along with the appropriate fees and documents listed below. The Nurses Board will not accept responsibility for original documents sent to this office and request copies wherever possible.

  • Documentation evidencing your identity (eg passport, driver's licence or  birth certificate).
  • Evidence of change of name if registration or enrolment is sought under a name different from that appearing on any of your documents. Acceptable documents are marriage certificate or change of name certificate. Please contact the Nurses Board if you require further information on acceptable documents.
  • Nursing or midwifery graduation certificate, diploma or degree OR other evidence of the completion of your education program/s. You must provide evidence for each qualification for which you seek registration.
  • Current certificate of registration or enrolment from the state or territory where you last worked as a nurse or midwife. (Certificate of Registration/Enrolment is referred to as a practising certificate in some states.)

Note: If either of the above two documents are not available, we will accept a verification from the registering authority in the state or territory where you hold current registration.
  • Evidence of nursing or midwifery practice within the past 5 years (ie a reference or statement of service on official letterhead signed by an appropriate senior officer stating position held and period of employment).

Applicants will be required to pay the fees for both initial registration or enrolment and certificate of registration or enrolment. A fee is required to register each additional qualification. Badges can also be purchased, however these are optional.

If you wish to register in person, you must make an appointment to do so on 08 8366 5566. The process takes between 15-20 minutes.
