Education Program Completed in New Zealand
If you are currently registered or enrolled in South Australia and completed the education program for your additional qualification in New Zealand, your application can be processed under the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act 1997. If an applicant requests registration under the Nurses Act 1999, they would require an assessment of their overseas qualification.
You will be required to return your Certificate of Registration or Enrolment so it can be updated with your new qualification.
Under the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act 1997 you will need to provide:
- completed application form;
- identification which must indicate full legal name and date of birth;
- documented evidence of change of name (if name varies on documentation);
- documented evidence of nursing practice within the past five years (a reference or statement of service on official letterhead signed by a senior officer which includes dates of employment and position held);
- current Certificate of Registration or Enrolment with New Zealand;
- payment of the Additional Qualification fee (badge optional).
If you wish to register in person, you must make an appointment to do so on 08 8366 5566. The registration process takes between 15-20 minutes.
Nurses and midwives who successfully apply under the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act 1997 are granted deemed registration or enrolment which enables the nurse or midwife to commence employment whilst details of current registration or enrolment are verified with either the Nursing or Midwifery Council of New Zealand. Deemed registration or enrolment continues until substantive registration or enrolment is granted, or until it is cancelled or refused by the Board. Applicants will be notified of such decisions within one calendar month.
