Education Program Completed Interstate
If you are currently registered or enrolled in South Australia and completed the education program for your additional qualification interstate, your application can be processed under either the Nurses Act 1999 or the Mutual Recognition Act 1992.
The difference is in the documentation required and the details are outlined below. You will be required to return your Certificate of Registration or Enrolment so it can be updated with your new qualification.
Under the Nurses Act 1999 you will need to provide:
- a completed application form;
- identification which must indicate full legal name and date of birth;
- documented evidence of change of name (if name varies on documentation);
- evidence of the completion of the education program for each qualification for which registration or enrolment is sought;
- current Certificate of Registration or Enrolment (also
known as practising certificate) from the state or territory where you last
worked as a nurse or midwife;
Note: If either of the above two documents are not available, verification from the registering authority in the state or territory where you were last employed as a nurse or midwife will suffice for the document(s) that is(are) unavailable. - documented evidence of nursing practice within the past five years (a reference or statement of service on official letterhead signed by a senior officer which includes dates of employment and position held);
- payment of the Additional Qualification fee (badge optional).
Under the Mutual Recognition Act 1992 you will need to provide:
- completed application form;
- identification which must indicate full legal name and date of birth;
- documented evidence of change of name (if name varies on documentation);
- documented evidence of nursing practice within the past five years (a reference or statement of service on official letterhead signed by a senior officer which includes dates of employment and position held);
- current Certificate of Registration or Enrolment within another Australian state/territory;
- payment of the Additional Qualification fee (badge optional).
If you wish to register in person, you must make an appointment to do so on 08 8366 5566. The registration process takes between 15-20 minutes.
Nurses who successfully apply under the Mutual Recognition Act 1992 are granted deemed registration or enrolment which enables the nurse or midwife to commence employment whilst details of current registration or enrolment are verified interstate. Deemed registration or enrolment continues until substantive registration or enrolment is granted, or until it is cancelled or refused by the Board. Applicants will be notified of such decisions within one calendar month.
