Corporate Communications, Professional Practice and Projects

• Conducts research and projects into the regulation of nursing and midwifery;

• Responsible for all Board publications; and
• Communicates with the public and key stakeholders about the standards of practice endorsed by the Board.

Registrations

• Assesses eligibility for registration and enrolment of nurses, midwives and mental health nurses' including those with overseas qualifications;
• Registers and enrols new graduates and nurses from interstate and overseas;
• Provides an annual registration/enrolment renewal service;
• Provides public access to the register and roll.

Investigations

• Investigates reports of nurses, midwives and mental health nurses' misconduct, incompetence or incapacity;
• Convenes formal Inquiries and reinstatement hearings as directed by the Board;
• Monitors individuals who have had conditions placed on their registration and enrolment.

Policy and Support

• Develops policies and procedures which reflect the Board's strategic plan and the legislative responsibilities of the Board;
• Develops and provides support services to the Board's regulatory functions; and
• Ensures the efficient and effective use of the Nurses Board's physical, financial, technological and human resources;

Education and Accreditation:

• Develops the Nurses Board's registration and education policies; and
• Recommends to the Board the:
  • Approval of: curricula that prepares nurses, midwives and mental health nurses for registration and enrolment;
  • Accreditation of providers of courses which lead to registration or enrolment;
  • Authorisation of enrolled nurses to work without supervision;
  • Authorisation of nurse practitioners
